A story about placemakers; a group of volunteers who together faced an impossible task and dared to help improve the lives of people in their community.
With no money and limited resources, a group of volunteer leaders in Peterborough, Ontario transformed an abandoned convent into a housing facility and food centre. Working with lawyers and artists, teachers, and students, they forged new pathways for social finance and sustainable development.

The Mount documentary project was born out of a community-based research project for An Kosurko’s master’s thesis in Sustainability Studies at Trent University. It was a case study of The Mount Community Centre that explored how people come together in place to solve challenges like affordable housing and food security. The narrative is a collective representation of the volunteer voices from The Mount: a group of volunteers who came together in support of its residents in need, and creatively navigated the constraints it faced in meeting them.
